TEACHING METHODOLOGY/ STRATEGIES

Lectures

For most of the subjects that I have taught, I believe lectures are the most informative strategy to introduce the subjects to the students especially for the first year students. In every classes, I will ensure that I have prepared my lecture well enough to make the students understand the topic that I should cover for that particular week.  In the very first hour of the lecture, I always put emphasis on the understanding of basic concept of the subject. I also believed that my first class will influence the interest of my students towards my subjects. Therefore, I will always try to make the class as interesting as possible to attract and create their interest through creative performance in teaching, giving relevant examples to demonstrate the theories, good personality and appearance and positive attitude plus having good rapport and close relationship with the students.

Cooperative Learning

Cooperation will always bring about good result. I believe peer teaching and learning is often benefitial to the students in so many ways. With different learning styles, they can help each other in understanding the subject better. I always encourage the students to apply every single knowledge and theory that they have learnt during the classes in their daily lives. I use group learning periodically with topics that are suitable to this format. For example, I assigned them into few groups of 4 to 5 students each, with different types of cartoon scenarios. They were asked to apply as many theories of educational psychology with reasonable and relevant explanations. Each group will have to present their work to the class, give and receive comments.

Assignments

Assignments were prepared with specific objectives for each subject. The main purpose is to enhance the students’ understanding on the subject matter through learning from doing. Normally, the assignment given is in the form of project paper, problem based assignments and case studies. Guidelines are clearly stated, so that the students have a clearer picture of what they are supposed to do. In case of facing any problems, they may come and see me at their own convenient time.

Presentations

Presentation is a good way of learning. It develops self-confidence and enhances one's communication skills. The most important thing is it enables the sharing of knowledge and experience among the students.
